The AAPI THRIVE project, based within the Office of the Chancellor, works with various offices and units across the UW Tacoma campus to increase Asian and Pacific Islander student retention and engagement, develop and sustain culturally affirming curricula for students, offer equity-focused faculty development opportunities, and increase awareness of culturally-relevant mental health resources for AAPI communities.

Attend workshops about college success conversations with peers, advisors and professors
Maintain course enrollment in TSOC 270 Asian America: Sociological and Interdisciplinary Perspectives; meets the diversity requirement for graduation

The Center for Student Involvement is home to a variety of involvement opportunities for all UW Tacoma students - including Registered Student Organizations, the Student Activities Board, the Associated Students of UW Tacoma, Husky Volunteers, The Ledger, Tahoma West, Husky Sustainability Fund, and the Giving Garden. We also offer a variety of campus services, including free printing - color printing and paper included - for students. The UW Tacoma Library Makerspace is a peer-to-peer learning environment where students, staff, and faculty collaborate using a variety of tools to create interdisciplinary academic and fun projects. The Library Makerspace is also an anti-racist workspace which has the goal of lowering the bar to entry for folks to use Makerspace technologies and which operates on a "no-mistakes" philosophy that encourages play and exploration. This is a hands-on Makerspace, you will need to come in and use the tools yourself to create projects. Makerspace staff will not make things for you, you must make them yourself! And don't worry if you don't know how to do something, we will either show you how or learn together to make your project come to life.

Everyone who uses the Makerspace MUST read and sign the Makerspace User Agreement. Use of the Makerspace is a privilege and not a right. Use of the Makerspace is contingent on following the code of conduct outlined in the User Agreement. In order to create an open and welcoming space for all folks, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, or other factors, the Makerspace takes a zero tolerance approach to discrimination. Users can and will be banned for racist or discriminating words or actions.

Everyone is welcome to use the Makerspace and drop-ins are welcome but it is strongly encouraged (and in some cases required) for you to book the equipment that you want to use so that we can respect everyone's time. Links to booking information are in each of the sections below.

Peer Advisors for Veteran Education (PAVE) is a peer support program that brings together military-connected students with trained student Peer Advisors who can help them navigate college life, address challenges they may face, refer them to appropriate resources on and off campus, and provide ongoing support.

Psychological & Wellness Services (PAWS) provides free and confidential intentional, problem-focused mental health counseling, aimed at building better skills and exploring alternative ways of coping through crisis, individual, and group counseling; educational workshops and classroom presentations; consultation for students, faculty, staff, and student families; and referrals (when appropriate) to community mental health and social service providers and other UWT student services and resources.

Student Health is a one-stop-shop that aims to empower students to make informed decisions about their health and well-being through evidence-based health promotion, education, and prevention strategies. Student Health provides health services and resources to UWT students at no cost, such as Student Health Services with TimelyCare; Confidential Victim's Advocacy; skills-based health education, training, and workshops; harm reduction supplies such as safer sex supplies and NARCAN; and support with meeting the Tri-Campus Immunization Requirement.

The Services and Activities Fee (SAF) is authorized by Washington's state legislature. It funds student activities and programs at the University of Washington Tacoma.

UW Tacoma's SAF is currently $164 per quarter. Students who are enrolled part-time pay a prorated amount. The SAF Committee (SAFC) reviews and recommends the amount of the SAF each year. The UW Board of Regents has final authority to approve the fee, as well as the SAF budget.

The Sustainability Leadership Certificate (SLC) will offer a non-academic certificate option that all students at UW Tacoma may choose to complete during their academic career. The SLC will provide all students an avenue to interact with and learn about sustainability and grow as sustainability leaders. Students will gain knowledge about all three pillars of sustainability, identify personal leadership values and strengths, strengthen and practice collaborative leadership, learn the basics of interdisciplinary sustainability practices, connect sustainability concepts to their academic coursework, and participate in hands-on service learning projects. This program will prepare students with the basic knowledge and confidence to reflect and implement sustainability into their careers by building stronger community connections, reflecting as leaders, and building hope for a healthy and resilient future.
